Only a small number of counties can say they are home to 11 Fortune 500 company headquarters. Fairfax County is one of them. With 11 Fortune 500 companies making their home in this Northern Virginia county, five of them are in the Vienna, Tysons area.

Freddie Mac

Ranking number 40 on the Fortune 500 list, the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation (FHLMC) giant, Freddie Mac is headquartered in Tysons Corner, Virginia. Freddie Mac, a public government-sponsored enterprise (GSE), has been recognized several times for its emphasis on diversity in the workplace and its inclusive practices. Working Mother magazine named Freddie Mac a top employer for multicultural women and The Human Rights Equality Index and Disability Equity Index have awarded the mortgage corporation a score of 100% several times for its inclusive practices.

Capital One Financial

Capital One Financial grabs the number 98 spot on the 2020 Fortune 500 List. Adjacent to the McLean Station in Tysons Corner, Virginia the Capital One Tower is the second-tallest building in Virginia and the tallest occupied building in the Washington DC area. The American bank holding company specializes in auto loans, credit cards, and banking and savings accounts with small business accounts in the US, the UK, and Canada.

DXC Technology

DXC Technology, a large B2B IT services company ranks at number 122 on the latest Fortune 500 list.  Located in Tysons Corner, Virginia, the company offers services such as analytics, application services, cloud and platform services, and the Internet of Things (IoT). Employing 138,000 people, with a revenue of over 19 billion the IT company has several subsidiaries such as Luxoft, Xchanging, and CSC Australia Pty. Ltd.

Hilton Worldwide Holdings

Coming in at number 345 on the Fortune 500 list, Hilton Worldwide Holdings, formerly Hilton Hotels Corporation, made the move to Tysons Corner, Virginia from Beverly Hills, California in 2009. Hilton has numerous brands across varying market segments, including Embassy Suites Hotels, Hilton Garden Inn, Hampton by Hilton, and DoubleTree by Hilton. The multinational hospitality company is comprised of over 6,000 properties and over 970,000 rooms in 119 countries and territories.

Booze Allen Hamilton

Headquartered in McLean, Virginia, Booze Allen Hamilton landed the number 475 spot on the most recent Fortune 500 list. The global consulting firm specializes in analytics, engineering, and cyber with success in revolutionizing business, government, and military organizations. Employing almost 30,000 employees the firm has one guiding purpose, “to empower and change the world.”

Conclusion

With a new record, the state of Virginia now has the sixth most Fortune 500 companies in the country, with Fairfax County housing half of the 22 companies. This sends a convincing message from the corporate world that Fairfax County is a strong, resilient location for any headquarter operations. The wide-ranging diversity of the Fairfax headquartered companies shows the stability of the county’s economy, as well. With more Fortune 500 companies in Fairfax County than ever before, we can only expect the number to rise again in 2021.
