Oakton has a total land area of 9.8 square miles (25.3 km²), and a total water area of 0.04 square miles (0.1 km²) (i.e. 0.38% of its total area is water while 99.62% is land). It has a zip code of 21224 and its area codes are 703 and 571. 

Previously conducted censuses have recorded a stable increase in the total population of Oakton’s residents.

• A population growth of 19.3% of the 24,610 population in 1990 census was recorded in 2000 (total population: 29,348).
