Moving is often just as tough on your kids as it is for you. But since you’re their parents, you can at least exert some effort to make moving easier for them. Here are some tips to do just that.
Tips For Moving With Kids
Few things are more jarring for children than being told they’re about to move to another city or state just a few days before you actually leave. It’s always better to break the news to your kids in advance. A two-week notice would probably work to at least give them the time to say goodbye to their friends and their favorite places.
And yes, they’ll probably throw a fit if they don’t want to move, but they will eventually come around, so just allow them their angst and give them time.
As parents, you at least have a say about any aspect of the home moving process. Kids often don’t, but you can change that to make moving easier.
If you’re still looking for a house, for example, why not ask your children to tag along with you while you go house-hunting, or at least them the prospective homes on the computer if you’re doing your research online?
One sure way of getting your children all fired up about moving is the idea of having a new room. You can ask them about the color that they want for their new digs. You can even ask them to have fun making a layout of their new rooms and make it some sort of an art project.
Moving presents many challenges, but by making it easier on your kids, you’ll have one that you can check off your list.
